This weekend is the Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival. There will be 6 outdoor stages featuring a huge lineup that you can view here:

We’ll be there as well, set up in front of our friends at Vocado (Reynolds & Lakeshore) right near one of the stages, and we’ll have some tasty frozen and baked treats for you to munch on while you’re serenaded.

If jazz isn’t your thing, there’s a Wild Blueberry Festival happening in downtown Toronto this weekend from 8am–3pm.

There will be a wild blueberry pie bake-off, natural tie-dying workshops and a farmers market where you can meet some of the hardworking individuals growing and picking these itty-bitty nuggets of goodness for you every year. Find out all the info here:

In celebration of this long weekend, we will have shorter hours at the shop.

As usual, we’ll be at the Organic Farmer’s Market on Saturday from 9am – 1pm, and the store will be open 11am-1pm. We’ll then be closed Sunday and Monday, reopening with a whole new weekly menu on Tuesday.

If you’re looking for a way to spend your time on Monday, why not check out some art? The 47th annual Art in the Park is scheduled for the 6th – the only day of the weekend that is supposed to be weather worth venturing out in.

Featuring more than 150 artists and artisans from across the country, the event attracts thousands of people to the Bronte waterfront. Visitors to the 2012 show will see the return of some of the same artists as in previous years, as well as some who have never participated before. Artists come from far and wide – this year there are artists from Quebec, British Columbia and as far away as the Bahamas.

Every medium is represented, from traditional oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings to glass, ceramics, textiles, photography, mixed media, sculptures and fine jewellery.

As some added incentive (and in case you’re having trouble convincing people to come with you), the licensed Beer Garden is back, this time catered by Heat, and Tropical Daze will be on hand to serenade your stroll through the booths.

This weekend marks the beginning of the 2012 Summer Olympics, and we’re definitely looking forward to rooting for our Oakville (and rest of Canada) athletes competing this year!

In case you’re not able to take the next 2 weeks off to spend some quality time with your couch and TV, Forbes Magazine recently released their list of the top Apps for following the games. You can check that out here and choose which would suit you best.

An event of equally epic proportions is coming up next week: the second installment in Vocado’s Yummy Mommy Club! Hair stylist Chris MacLachlan will be on hand to teach some simple hair techniques that are quick and easy, and will ensure you look your yummiest all summer, and we’ll be there providing some baked organic goodness.

Happy Long Weekend!

First things first : We will be at the Organic Farmer’s Market on Saturday from 9am-1pm. The store will be opened for shorter hours on Saturday and closed Sunday and Monday in honour of Canada’s birthday. We’ll be back Tuesday with a fresh new menu for our lunch crowd, and new selections in our freezer!

On to Fun Friday: Things to do on Canada’s birthday!

This weekend Bronte Village is hosting a Canada Day celebration with free shuttle service and a bike corral for all you greener travelers we all secretly wish we were more like.

If you’re an early riser, you can take part in the Lion’s Club pancake breakfast at 8am at the Royal Canadian Legion, or come down to the Harbour a bit later when the festivities begin at 11am with fun stuff for the kids, a Vendor Village, bands throughout the day and fireworks at night.

If you haven’t been to CJ’s Cafe in Bronte, be sure to set some time aside to drop by here on July 1 as well, for an afternoon of live music and busking from 11am-5pm.
